Meet the baker
I was born and raised in Germany, where fresh sourdough bread is not just a daily staple; it is truly a part of everyday life. Many towns, villages, and neighborhoods have local bakers who create traditional loaves from locally sourced ingredients. Each town and region boasts its own distinctive styles and flavors. In fact, there are over 1,300 types of bread in Germany, with long fermentation using sourdough cultures being the common method.
When I moved to the U.S., I struggled to find the good bread I had come to love. So, I started baking bread—lots of it! Not all of it was good, but I soon connected with other bread enthusiasts and began experimenting with different recipes and types of flour. During these early years, I learned that bread baking is a unique blend of craft, science, and passion. I have been fortunate to be influenced and inspired by a global community of artisan bread bakers, and I have received formal training from some of them. Baking is my passion, and I genuinely enjoy creating handcrafted bread for my community and teaching others how to bake it in their own kitchens.
